The Good:
- Great innovations related to updates, gameplay and combat - Superb world that looks perfect, just like in a dream - Runs good on more modest computers - Instant exit from the game - Diversified so anyone can play it
The bad:
- Difficult to find groups for quests - To many loading screens
Guild Wars can be characterized as a distinct Role-Playing game with superb graphics, innovative ideas and very easy gameplay. The game brings totally new technology like self updating while in the game menu or in the game, you can enter or exit the game instantly and many new ideas.
While you can play it on the adventure side, questing, exploring the vast territories of Tyria you have another option to play in PVP arenas. Random Arena, Team Arena and Guild vs Guild are only a few from the possibilities. Another good thing if you choose to play only PVP is that you can choose a premade or custom made character with full powerful gear. But Guild Wars encourages you to play both, for example weapons found in adventures can be better then the ones in PVP and you can find more skills than the ones unlocked for PVP initially.
The population in towns is very numerous, lots of people, trading, buying, selling, creating guilds, searching for parties. You probably expect all those people to be divided on many servers, well that’s not the case, Guild Wars is created in such way that when too many people are online they are put in different districts, but, the cool thing is that you can travel from one district to another and you can talk with people from other districts. A thing that some like and others don’t is the fact that when you exit a town for adventure an instance opens only for you and your party.
Travelling from town to town was simplified too, now you can simply click a town on the map and you are teleported there instantly.
Ok so you want to create a character, you set the height, hair style, skin colour and other details and you enter the game. Once you enter the game you are stunned by the beauty of the world, it’s simply perfect, vivid nature, terrains of all possible types, great water and all other superb places, amazingly, the game can be run on more modest systems. You quickly find out that monsters named charr are attacking the peaceful territory. So in order to eliminate them you start looking for people to join your party in order to complete quests. Sometimes you will find that difficult because many leave the party before the quest is finished or they already have friends with whom to play.
The level cap is 20, you could say it’s low for a RPG but it’s normal for a game where the skills are more important then the Lvl. Weapons are not as vast as in other games but that again this game isn’t like other games either. While playing you can choose to be part of a guild, this can allow you to get help from your comrades to finish the quests very fast, cover ground very fast or to power lvl you.
One thing that we noticed is that the game was created from the beginning to allow you to play as much as you want, there are no 4 hours quests that force you to play the game, the majority of them lasting from 10 minutes to 1 hour . The sound is good, helps you feel like you are there and differs from region to region, all created by the famous composer Jeremy Soule .
Ok so you are probably wondering how much is the monthly fee, well think again because there is no monthly fee, you just buy it like a regular game and it’s yours to play for life. Great game from ArenaNet.
We give it a 9
