The Good:
-great battles at huge scales -very good battles details -accurate historical details
The Bad:
-you will need a good PC -multiplayer mode didn't improved
This is big, really big! A game that surpasses it's predecessor in every single aspect. Battles are huge, the graphics is superb, the interface is very well organized. The game is polished to extreme being almost flawless. Off course the main way to play was kept, move your armies through the interface but fight the battles in real-time.
Lot's of new things were brought for the pleasure of the player, like if you want to assassinate a general or an diplomat you can put an agent to do the job for you, or if you don't like God and want to make him angry put an agent to kill a Pope, i hope this is not blasphemy.
The basic physics and ideas of the game remains the same in real-time battles. If you're an archer and you know what's best for you, climb on a hill and shoot arrows from there, or if you want to order them it's nothing different from the previous game, orders work the same way as they did. But what is new in the game and brings some refinement in the battle are the units animations. You'll be amazed to see the infantry cover their ears from cannons shots or when they reload you can read on their movements that they are hurrying.
In the beginning of the game you will be able to choose from 5 nations and as you further advance in the campaign, other nations will be unlocked. In total, 15 nations will be available for you to choose. The thing that makes me eager to play Medieval 2: Total War, is the liberty in actions, you can do everything that a great power in that time could have done, and thats something. What, your neighbors are being annoying? Well conquer them and they will be quiet, you want to spread your word all over the world with your rules and believings and all that blah blah? Rise and lead a crusade or a jihad.
The campaign starts somewhere around the year 1000 and you can advance further till the 16'th century. If you advance further in the campaign and you reach the period limit, you can obviously conquer more easily a civilization that uses as weapons swords and spears, while you already discovered gun powder.
The multiplayer is not something great because you still can't play campaigns online and 1 versus 1 remains the main mode of action. We hope that this will be fixed with the next release.
The game is awesome but it requires a good system to play it too. You must have a good processor with lots of ram and a Gforce7900 video card or ATI equivalent, this if you want to play it with all graphics at max.
We give it a 8.8
But an upgrade to your computer will worth the trouble, because it's a strong candidate to the title of Best strategy game ever.
